FAQ

Your questions, answered

The things parents most often ask before getting in touch. Can't see yours? Just ask, we're happy to help.

What is myofunctional therapy?

It's the retraining of the muscles of the mouth, face and tongue, how you breathe, rest your tongue and swallow. Those quiet patterns shape sleep, dental alignment, jaw comfort, speech and feeding. It's our specialty, for children and adults.

Do you treat adults?

Yes. Myofunctional therapy is very much for adults too: mouth breathing, snoring and disrupted sleep, jaw tension and TMJ, tongue-tie, and orthodontic relapse are all common reasons adults come to us.

What age can my child start myofunctional therapy?

True myofunctional therapy generally suits ages 5 and up, when a child can follow the exercises. For younger children (roughly 1-5) we offer oral motor function support, and for babies in the first year, infant feeding support.

Do you offer online / teletherapy sessions?

We work with families face-to-face, and see clients who travel from across the country. Some types of therapy can be done over Zoom where appropriate. Ask us and we'll let you know if it would suit your situation.

How often are sessions?

It depends on your goals and the type of therapy. We'll agree a rhythm together at your assessment, often weekly to begin with, and review it as you progress.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

Not at all, there's no referral needed. You're warmly welcome to get in touch with us directly and refer yourself or your child. If a dentist, orthodontist, ENT, doctor or teacher suggested seeing us, that background is helpful to share, but it's never a requirement.

What happens at the first visit?

Your first visit is an initial assessment, a warm, unhurried chance for us to understand what's going on and for you to ask anything on your mind. If you have any referral notes or reports, please bring them along; if you don't, that's completely fine too.

Do you still do speech and feeding therapy?

Absolutely. Speech and feeding therapy are core services, offered in their own right, and often as the downstream payoff once the underlying oral-muscle foundation is addressed.

What does it cost?

Fees vary by service and session length. Please contact us and we'll walk you through the options.

Still have a question?

No question is too small. Send it over and we'll get back to you.
